Indian passport holders still require a Schengen visa to travel to Europe's 29 Schengen countries. Despite rumors about ETIAS, that system does NOT apply to Indians โ it's only for countries with visa-free access to Europe. Your Schengen visa application process remains the same.
New: Entry/Exit System (EES) from April 2026
Europe is replacing passport stamping with the digital Entry/Exit System (EES) from April 10, 2026:
- 1Your fingerprints and facial photo captured digitally at border
- 2Replaces physical passport stamps
- 3Tracks number of days spent in Schengen area (90 days in 180 days rule still applies)
- 4Does NOT replace the Schengen visa for Indians
- 5First crossing will take longer โ arrive early at airport
Schengen Visa Types for Indians
- 1Type C โ Short Stay (up to 90 days): Tourist, business, family visit
- 2Single Entry โ Enter once, exit = visa used
- 3Double Entry โ Can enter twice
- 4Multiple Entry โ Enter as many times as allowed within validity
- 5Long Stay Visa (Type D) โ For stays over 90 days, work, study

- 2Children 6โ12 years: โฌ45 (~โน4,050)
- 3Children under 6: Free
- 4Fee is non-refundable even if visa is rejected
Documents Required
- 1Valid passport (6 months validity, 2 blank pages)

- 32 recent passport-size photos (35x45mm, white background)

Which Country's Embassy to Apply To
Apply to the embassy of the country where you'll spend the most days. If equal days, apply to the first country you enter:

- 2Germany for Frankfurt or Berlin primary destination
- 3Italy for Rome/Milan primary destination
- 4Netherlands for Amsterdam primary
- 5Spain for Madrid/Barcelona primary
